Brandy

Brandy is a small, stylish doe who milks like a fiend. In spite of her size - she is the smallest of our mature full-size does - she is by far the best milker. It is not unusual for her to milk two gallons in a day when she has just come fresh. Three years ago, when she dam-raised a set of fat triplets, I would still take a gallon of milk a day from her. She is the herdqueen, and while she isn't above knocking heads once in a while, she mostly rules by the "awe factor." There's something about the way she looks at her underlings that conveys very clearly who is in charge.

Brandy is what I consider a business goat - while she is clearly bonded to her people, she isn't much interested in hugging and kissing. She'd rather just get on the stand, be milked, and get back to eating alfalfa or browsing or generally running the whole show. Oddly, her kids are not like that: invariably they will be among the sweetest and most fun-loving babies we have. Unfortunately, we have only one daughter from Brandy; 6 out of the 7 kids she has had for us have been bucks. On the other hand, her one daughter, Winnie, is a gem.
